a little Story About Wireless

November 23rd, 2008

Last week I was went to Indocomtech Expo 2008. Indocomtecth is the biggest computer expo in Indonesia and held once in a year. Almost every big vendor has stand on it and the show the latest product. I buy Belkin wireless router at that day, Belkin N1 Wireless Router.

Here’s the picture:
cool is’nt it? It has display for wifi connection, router connection, internet access and others.

And sold only 50% off!!! and also has lifetime warranty.

quoted from Belkin official website:

N1 offers the easiest setup ever, and our built-in Network Status Display lets you see your connections working. Each icon represents a network component, so you can easily monitor your connections for fast troubleshooting. Based on the 802.11n draft, N1 Wireless uses smart-antenna technology to enable multiple receivers and transmitters to send and receive data wirelessly.Intelligent MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) spatial multiplexing techniques build upon the widely deployed 802.11g standard by greatly increasing speed, range, and faster speeds of up to 300Mbps*.

Actually I have some difficulties to understand a wifi technology, about a,b,g,n draft about MIMO and about wireless securities. So, I open the google, and seek some information. The finding of our question I wrote down here.

It said, N1 MIMO is based on 02.11n draft. How cool is this draft? And got the answers. 802.11n is a breakthrough technology that enables Wi-Fi networks to do more, faster, and over a larger area. 802.11n Wi-Fi provides the best connection available for computer networking and home entertainment applications alike – delivering the range, bandwidth, and performance today’s multimedia applications and products demand.

The key features that n draft provides is:

  • A strong wifi signal that can blanket the entire house.
  • Support multiple devices connected that not sacrifice bandwith.
  • Support high definition video streaming.
  • Tested for latest securities features

More deep, I search about MIMO? And you know what? I got the answers. MIMO is an abbreviation for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output, which refers to the ability of equipment to handle multiple data input and multiple data output operation. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 802.11n draft 2.0 devices make use of multiple antennas to send and receive more than one communication signal simultaneously. This is similar to having two FM radios tuned to the same channel at the same time – the signal becomes louder and clearer. This multiplies the performance of the Wi-Fi signal, and is reflected in the two, three, or even more antennas found on some 802.11n access points or routers.

Do you know? n draft has a new security that calles WPA2. All Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 802.11n draft 2.0 products are tested for the latest generation of government-grade Wi-Fi security: WPA2™ (Wi-Fi Protected Access™ 2). So how can WPA2 secures our wifi network? I found the answers.

WPA2 creates fresh session keys on every association. The benefit is that the encryption keys used for each client on the network are unique and specific to that client. Ultimately, every packet sent over the air is encrypted with a unique key. The ability to avoid key reuse and provide unique, fresh encryption keys is a basic tenet of good security practice and is why WPA2 offers such good security.

Well, it obvious that Wireless technology is the future technology for us. wifi n draft can hold 300mbps. it hold 1/3 bandwith from gigabit ethernet that commonly used in data center. Nowadays our PC desktop has top LAN bandwith about 100mbps. But, in my laptop n draft I has 300mbps bandwith.. hehehe.. Cool isn’t it?

    Bangun tidur ku terus ngenet,
    tidak lupa membuka laptop,
    habis ngenet ku pergi ngantor..
tidak lupa ku ngenet di kereta..

Hehehe, hidup untuk ngenet atau ngenet untuk hidup.. pokoke wireless lah…
